I can't say I'm happy with the shoot we did last Friday and I debated whether or not I'd post about it. Kuniko and I worked together all week doing some great work, however Thursday we got kicked out of our location. Kuniko found a new location, but I wasn't permitted to set up any lights, or a background. Not really a big deal, but it was getting late into the evening so I worked fast and with what I had a 50mm f/1.4. Kuniko did a wonderful job with the make up, and Saphire Jones was a joy to work with we managed to make a couple of nice images. Just not up to the standards I am setting for myself.

Merry Christmas.

Thursday was actually kind of boring, okay not really.
Main light is a Dyna-lite 4040 head with a beauty dish on one pack at half power, there is a white reflector at Marci's waist to bounce a little fill into her eyes. Two Dyna-lite 2050 heads shot into umbrellas at full power on another pack for the back ground.
On a few I shot to fast for the back ground pack to fully recycle, but I dig how it looks.

Now that's hard work
For Li I placed two Dyna-lite 2050 heads in medium soft boxes just off camera right and left, for the ultimate super soft light, with a white reflector at her waist for the last touch. I lit the back ground with one 2050 head shot into an umbrella way up on the stand to produce a smooth gradient.

With Miley I blasted the background with two 2050 heads on one pack at full power, and lit her with one 4040 head in a medium softbox just out of frame camera left, and a white reflector camera right which doubled as a flag since we were shooting outside in direct sunlight.

Tuesday, another headshot
Light ... yep it's kind of important. I hit the back ground with a 2050 dyna-lite head and a grid spot, the main is another 2050 shot through a medium soft box camera left, and fill with my last 2050 shot through a small strip box. I threw a silver reflector in front of Michelle to bounce that last touch of light under her chin.

Monday Headshot
Great light makes great photographs. I used a Dyna-lite 2050 head in medium soft box just off camera right, fill is another 2050 head in a small strip box to the left and back beside me, and lit the background with a single 2050 shot into an umbrella.
I answered a Craigslist ad from makeup artist (So Young Park) looking for photographers and on Monday we shot Sasarih Hacupian. We had a great time, even thought the little room we shot in was hotter then hell, well I thought so, Sasarih is Armenian and was cold. I wasn't crazy about the purple flower eye thing, but So Young was eager to give it a go, so why not and they turned out great.

12/04/10 Three miles
Some days in a three mile walk I can almost fill up a small memory card, today I took seven frames, which included recomposing these two. I guess sometimes you see, other times you look ... the best days are when I'm aware.
Because Play is good!
Shooting through a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, an old Ichizuka enlarger lens, and a JEM Jr. with my 1Ds Mark 2. Cuze there is nothing like using thousands of dollars worth of camera and lens to make a low-fi image.

12/03/10 three and a quarter miles
Some times I just dig simple things.
I peeked through a fence and found these guys.
I love these trees, no idea why, but I photograph them almost every time I walk by.

Liking what can be done with light!
Three Dynalite heads, a socked beauty dish, a grid, and a small Calumet strip box.
Really just Minolta screws.

Film:
Remember, like, back in the old days (less than ten years ago)when you had to put those aluminum canisters filled with celluloid coated with a light sensitive emulsion in the back of a light tight box? Get in your way back machine, cause in the 1950's Olympus started making this nifty little gem that made half frame images. I can't remember owning an Olympus Pen (no not their new micro 4/3), so i must have borrowed it from my buddy Dunker (on the left). These two negatives were made consecutively then printed in a 35mm film holder.
