Bri's Headshot

So I drove out to my favorite "park" in LA to shoot Bri's headshot.  We meet through her friend Felisha, who has been trying to get Bri, who is at least 5'10" modeling.

After we nailer her headshot, she wanted to try a bit of a fashiony look.  While it may not have been the best spot to shoot a for what she wanted, we worked it a bit and I love how this turned out.

Mladenka Grgic headshots by Cutts Imaging Group

I meet Mladenka and her brother Luke in Pasadena a week or two ago.  After a short talk about what roles and types she was targeting we walked over to my favorite spot and shot for a couple of hours.

She wanted to shoot in natural light and I was happy to comply, and since she brought Luke I recruited him as my assistant for the day.  Mostly he held reflectors told stories and answered my questions.  I had lots they immigrated to California from Croatia via Germany really an interesting story.

After we moved to this spot for a dark background, I used Luke as a voice activated light stand (V.A.L.S.) with my 580exll as a little hair light.

I'm happy with how these turned out, and wish Mladenka luck with her budding career.

Jackie Chambers promotional portrait by Cutts Imaging Group Los Angeles

I shoot Jackie a few weeks ago against a white wall in her apartment with one light in a medium soft box.

Jackie is a fashion blogger and the founder of www.tgifguide.com. She needed a promo photo she can send out to conferences and such she speaks at.

I had a shoot canceled the day after we shot, so I retouched a few of my favorites instead of stewing over getting canceled on.

Candice Dylan headshot by Cutts Imaging Group

Continuing a recent trend of shooting natural light headshots, I drove into Pasadena to shoot Candice.  As usual I'm  a photographer not a prolific writer.

Adam Woodard

This is how far behind I am on my blogging.

I shoot Adam in January in Beverly Hills, he'd just rolled into town from South Carolina to start acting school and wanted a headshot.

Carla Chiron de la Casiniere, Los Angeles headshots by Cutts Imaging Group

I photographer Carla a few weeks ago in Venice, CA.  We squeezed all my gear around here living room furniture and tiptoed around shooting for a couple of hours.  Carla is a resent transplant from Vegas who has been acting and modeling.  Here's a little YouTube video for you.  It is always great to work with a confident actor who has modeling experience.  They know how their bodies work, take direction and work with it creatively.  Carla was fantastic, not only did we nail each look, but we geek talked most of the night, she used to work in a comic book store (my people).

Ning Headshots by Cutts Imaging Group

I shot Ning last month in Torrance, CA at her friends place, which took me a while to find, but I made it on time with a little help.  We shot for a couple of hours at a break neck pace, Ning has been modeling for a few years, and it was almost tough to keep up with her.  She just landed a Part in J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel film and needed headshots.

Best of all we went to Dim Sum for lunch after!

Sonny Valens headshot by Cutts Imaging Group

Sonny has been an entertainer for years, he started his career as a pro wrestler and for the last few years has been acting.  We hooked up via Craigslist, and we met downtown by the train station.  Usually I like to shoot in a studio setting where I can control the light.  Sonny wanted a bit of a grungy background, so we walked around, but as you can see we decided to shoot close and tight.

Sonny has been cast as a hispanic tough guy on a bunch of television shows, including one of fav's The Shield.

I did talk him into trying a more commercial look for a few, frames.

We went back to shooting for his badass type and nailed these last two.

Bryant Duke, Los Angeles Headshot/personal work.

Bryant sent me a message last week, he meet with an agency and, needed a natural light headshot to complete his portfolio.  So I drove in to L.A. and met with Bryant again, we busted out his headshot, and I talked his girlfriend Hailey into getting in front of the lens for a few minutes.

Since I went out to shoot his headshot I thought I better throw it out here.

Allen Cutts Imaging Group Headshot

Allen's originally from Virginia he moved to California last year after visiting his sister in February, I guess the California winters are more pleasant, yeah I know.  He's recording an album on said sisters Mac, and decided to get into modeling after driving DeAngelo to a shoot in Malibu (I think that's where he said it was ... I hope it is).

Jessica Charles' Headshot Los Angeles

Once again I drove in to L.A. yesterday to photograph.  Jessica's been acting forever, and making wedding dresses for a few years.  She's meeting with an agent Friday and needed a headshot quick, so I brought the laptop and pounded this final edit out in her living room after we finished shooting.

She needed a theatrical and wanted a vertical, but I noticed she picked all horizontal photographs for me to edit, which suits me just fine.  Although in my perfect world I make them all squares, cause squares are awesome.  Or maybe I always wanted a Hasselblad, yeah T's got one, but that's hers.  I had a Pentax 67 in college (which I regrettably sold on eBay) a 6x7 cm negative is the same aspect ratio as a 4x5 or 8x10, oh enough photo geek stuff.  These are my picks form Jessica's:

Just as I thought we were finished Jessica said she had a wig she wanted to try a couple of shots with ... and it was kind of like a different person came out in from of the lens.  Dig it cause I do.
